Background of Program

The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health course at UCMI provides teaching covering occupational safety and health elements, basic sciences, management, environment and ethics. Students will undergo a three years program in which the teaching spans for main stream of study in occupational safety and health which related to work activities.

Upon graduation, a Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health students’ is eligible to enrol in any field related with industrial such as construction, oil and gaseous, manufacturing, fabrication, building management, trades, banking, hospitality and many more.

This Diploma program is accredited with the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) along with fulfillment of Ministry of Higher Education. (MQA/FA2992)

The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health program has been accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in 4th June 2020. With this huge advantage, students are able to join IOSH Student Membership for the duration of their studies and on successful completion will meet the academic requirements for Graduate (Grad IOSH) membership. Graduate membership is the gateway to Chartered status. As the only organization in the world that offers Chartered membership to health and safety practitioners, students can achieve the highest professional standards and gain international recognition.

The program has been recognized by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) on 24th June 2021. With this accreditation, students are eligible to become a Safety & Health Officer after the completion of their study, with an additional of three (3) years working experienced in the field. With these advantages, students were potentially hit the industrial markets and demand.

Career Prospects

As a DOSH graduates, they may work as a Safety Officer in all of the industries since the position is stated in OSHA 1994. Mainly on high demands in oil and gas, construction sites, factories/ manufacturing, petrochemical industries, hi-rise companies as well as small companies that prioritize on safety aspects.

Admission Requirements

Possess Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent with THREE CREDITS in the following subjects*:

  • Mathematics and ONE science subject (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/General Science); and
  • Any other ONE subjects.

 

*The requirement to obtain a CREDIT in Mathematics at SPM level for candidates under category (i) may be waived if the applicant has completed the UCMI’s Special Mathematics Remedial Course or an equivalent/higher prerequisite.

Don’t meet the Mathematics credit (Grade C) requirement?

Applicants who do not obtain a CREDIT in Mathematics at SPM level may still be eligible for admission by completing UCMI’s Special Mathematics Remedial Course.

OR

Possess Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM)/ Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) Level 3 in the relevant field*;

OR

A Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in the relevant field with at least CGPA of 2.00*;

OR

A pass in Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (GP 2.0) in any subject*;

OR

A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least Grade Maqbul*;
