Programme Background

The Diploma in Hotel Management programme, under the Faculty of Business, Management and Humanities, is the first non-medical related programme offered by the university, as a diversification exercise in preparation for upgrading into a university-college by the year 2017. This programme was selected as part of the college’s effort to contribute to the manpower needs of the hospitality industry, particularly in hotel operations in the country. According to PEMANDU, the tourism industry will require about 495,000 additional workers from 2017 until 2020 in order to meet the targeted growth plan, which offer great career opportunity for the hotel management graduates.

To produce graduates who are knowledgeable and technically competent to pursue successful careers in the hotel industry and have the right qualifications for further education in the area of hotel management.

To produce graduates who are able to solve operational problems in hotel operations ethically with an innovative, creative and sustainable approach.

To produce graduates with capability to lead a team in hotel operations through effective communication skills.
PEO 4
To produce graduates who are able to utilize information technology to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the area of hotel industry.

The Diploma in Hotel Management programme offered under the Faculty of Management at University College MAIWP International (UCMI) is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in hotel and hospitality management.

The programme prepares students to meet the growing demands of the hospitality and tourism industry by equipping them with professional competencies in hotel operations, customer service, and hospitality management.

The programme combines theoretical learning with practical exposure in various areas of hotel and hospitality management. Students are introduced to essential operational and management aspects of the hospitality industry, including:

  • Hotel Operations
  • Front Office Management
  • Food and Beverage Services
  • Housekeeping Management
  • Customer Service
  • Hospitality Marketing
  • Tourism Management
  • Business Communication

The curriculum is designed to develop students’ technical, managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills relevant to the hospitality industry.

The programme aims to:

  • Develop students’ knowledge and practical skills in hotel and hospitality management.
  • Prepare graduates to meet industry standards and workforce demands.
  • Enhance customer service, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Produce competent, professional, and service-oriented graduates.
  • Support the growth and development of the hospitality and tourism industry.

For Local Students

  • Eligible to apply with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or an equivalent qualification with at least THREE (3) credits in any subjects;

    OR

  • Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in any subject or an equivalent qualification;

    OR

  • Pass Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul or an equivalent qualification;

    OR
  • Possess Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 in a related field AND pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a minimum of ONE (1) credit in any subject;

    OR
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Certificate (Level 3, Malaysian Qualifications Framework – MQF).

For International Students

Pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 4.0, or the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with a minimum of Band 2, or an equivalent qualification.

Graduates of the programme may pursue careers in various sectors within the hospitality and tourism industry, including:

  • Hotel Operations Executive
  • Front Office Assistant
  • Guest Relations Officer
  • Food and Beverage Supervisor
  • Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Hospitality Coordinator
  • Tourism Officer
  • Event Coordinator

Graduates may also continue their studies in hospitality, tourism, and management-related fields.
