Programme Background

This programme provides candidates with the opportunity to undertake independent and in-depth research in various areas of business management, including human resource management, marketing, finance, strategic management, organizational behaviour, entrepreneurship, and related disciplines.

Through rigorous academic training and supervised research, candidates are equipped with strong analytical, methodological, and problem-solving skills necessary for conducting high-quality research and producing impactful findings.

The programme also supports the development of lifelong learning, ethical leadership, and evidence-based decision-making in line with current industry needs and global business trends.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

PEO     Description
PEO 1
To produce professionals with critical and in-depth understanding on the advanced knowledge in management to contribute to new and original research with new concepts and applications that broadens the frontiers of the body of knowledge in the field of management towards the attainment of sustainable business goals. 
PEO 2
To produce professionals who conduct an advanced rigorous research independently with practical research capabilities, collaborative interpersonal and communications skills to produce research outputs namely thesis, publication and presentation in the field of management for sustainable business and services and professional practices.
PEO 3
To produce professionals with leadership qualities, personal skills, ethics and professionalism toward lifelong learning who can contribute to legal, ethical and professional codes of practice for personal, economic and sustainable development.
PEO 4
To produce professionals with digital information technology capabilities, quantitative skills and capacities to create new entrepreneurial business models, innovations and technologies, and potential commercialization.

PLO 1
Demonstrate a critical and in-depth understanding on existing knowledge, theories and concepts to contribute to original and new research that broadens the frontier of the body of knowledge in areas of management through comprehensive and systematic study of current critical issues in management and its impacts on sustainable development goals.
PLO 2
Synthesise and analyse existing and new issues and complex problems in management by applying appropriate research methods to develop novel solutions or new models, theories and sustainable new practices or applications through research.
PLO 3
Conduct rigorous and independent research with minimal supervision to resolve routine and non-routine, complex and emerging problems in areas of management in business and services; and develop solutions and sustainable strategies.
PLO 4
Interact effectively with good human relation skills with scholarly communities, communities of practice in the field of management in business, service and organization at local and international level.
PLO 5
Communicate cogently orally and written on the research findings, thesis, presentation and viva voce with the scholarly communities and general audience using advanced media technology applications.

Select and use relevant advanced digital information technology, systems and applications to address problems in research and sustainable research activities.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Management is a research-intensive programme designed to develop advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and scholarly expertise in the field of business and management.

The programme aims to produce highly competent researchers, academicians, consultants, and industry professionals who are capable of contributing original knowledge and innovative solutions to contemporary business challenges at both national and international levels.

The programme is research-based and requires candidates to undertake independent supervised research in selected areas of business management and related disciplines. Candidates are expected to complete academic and research requirements in accordance with the regulations and standards set by the university.

The programme aims to:

  • Develop advanced knowledge and research competency in business and management.
  • Produce graduates capable of conducting independent and high-quality research.
  • Enhance analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Promote ethical leadership and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Contribute original knowledge and innovative solutions to contemporary business challenges.
  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) in related fields are accepted by the HEP Senate;

    OR

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in non-related fields are accepted by the HEP Senate, subject to having relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment;

    OR

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) in non-related fields are accepted by the HEP Senate and without relevant working experience, subject to passing pre- requisite courses;

    OR

  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) recognised by the Malaysian government.

Language (English) requirements for international students

Achieve a minimum Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET)OR equivalent to Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) (Mid B2)
