Department of Basic Health Science & Pharmacology

The Department of Basic Health Sciences & Pharmacology is a core department within the Faculty of Pharmacy (FOP), supporting the academic development of students across the Diploma in Pharmacy (DPC), Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Honours) (BPT) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) (BPC) programmes.

Our department provides the essential foundation that underpins pharmacy education.  We are responsible for delivering fundamental subjects in the basic health sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, immunology, and pharmacology. Our teaching equips students with a strong understanding of human health and disease, as well as the scientific principles underlying drug action and therapeutic use.

Through a commitment to quality teaching and scholarly engagement, we strive to cultivate competent, ethical, and scientifically grounded graduates who are well prepared to contribute to the pharmacy profession and the broader healthcare sector.
